Spotted
The Spotted-winged Starling is a striking member of the starling family, distinguished by its dark, glossy body plumage and prominent white spots on the wings. Its overall appearance is quite elegant.
Where to spot
Found in parts of Southeast Asia, including the Himalayas, northeastern India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar, inhabiting evergreen and moist deciduous forests, often at higher altitudes.
How to spot
Look for its dark body and especially the white spots on the wings, which are visible in flight and when perched. Scan the canopy of fruiting trees.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, especially in the morning and late afternoon. It can be found year-round in its resident range, with some altitudinal movements.
This starling is largely frugivorous, with a diet heavily dependent on wild figs and other fruits, playing an important role in seed dispersal within its forest habitat.
