Spotted
A medium-sized hummingbird with iridescent green plumage covering most of its body, including its belly. It has a relatively straight bill and a slightly notched tail.
Where to spot
Inhabits humid forests, forest edges, and shrubby areas in the Andes of northern Peru. It can also be found in cultivated areas and gardens.
How to spot
Identify by its overall green coloration, including the belly. Look for its rapid, darting flight near flowering plants. It can be quite bold when visiting feeders.
When to spot
Active year-round, primarily during daylight. Observing them at feeders or flowering plants in the morning or late afternoon can be productive.
Its uniform green coloration allows it to blend seamlessly with the foliage, making it surprisingly difficult to spot despite its vibrant hue.
