Spotted
The Spectacled Tetraka is a common and widespread bird endemic to Madagascar. It is named for the distinctive yellow eye-ring that contrasts with its grey head and olive-green body.
Where to spot
Humid evergreen forests, forest edges, and secondary growth throughout eastern and northern Madagascar, from lowlands to high altitudes.
How to spot
Look for its bright yellow eye-ring and olive-green plumage. It is an active forager, often moving quickly through the canopy and mid-story, and can be located by its varied vocalizations.
When to spot
Year-round. Active throughout the day, often seen in mixed-species foraging flocks.
The 'zosterops' in its scientific name refers to its resemblance to white-eyes (genus Zosterops), particularly because of its prominent and bright eye-ring.
