The Spectacled Fulvetta is a charming and distinctive small bird found in the mountains of northern China. It is named for the prominent dark 'spectacles' around its eyes.
Where to spot
Endemic to mountainous regions of northern and central China, particularly in Beijing, Hebei, Shanxi, and Shaanxi provinces. Prefers oak and pine forests, mixed woodlands, and scrub.
How to spot
Identify it by its distinct black eye-ring, which gives it a 'spectacled' appearance, and its rather plain brown and grey plumage. It often forages actively in pairs or small groups through the lower and mid-canopy.
When to spot
Resident year-round within its range. Most easily observed during the breeding season (late spring to summer) when they are more active and vocal.
