Spotted
The Southern Yellowthroat is a vibrant warbler with bright yellow underparts, olive-green upperparts, and a distinctive black facial mask in males, typical of the yellowthroat genus.
Where to spot
Resident in central and eastern South America, including parts of Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina.
How to spot
Look in dense, low vegetation near water, such as marshes, wet grasslands, and overgrown fields. Males often perch atop vegetation to sing. Listen for its typical "wichity-wichity-wichity" song, often varying geographically.
When to spot
Can be observed year-round within its extensive resident range. More vocal during the local breeding season (Southern Hemisphere spring/summer).
