Spotted
The Yellow-throated Tyrannulet is a small, bright flycatcher recognized by its prominent yellow throat. It inhabits humid forests and woodlands of Central America and northern South America.
Where to spot
Found from southeastern Honduras south through Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama, and into northern Colombia. It prefers humid evergreen forests, secondary growth, and forest edges, typically at lower to middle elevations.
How to spot
Look for this tiny bird in the mid to upper canopy. Its yellow throat is the most prominent feature. It actively gleans insects from foliage and makes short sallies. Listen for its high-pitched, often repeated 'tseet' calls.
When to spot
A year-round resident. Most active during the morning hours, when it is foraging and vocalizing.
Its bright yellow throat provides a clear visual cue for identification, making it stand out among other small, green flycatchers in its range.
