Spotted
The Slaty-backed Nightingale-Thrush is a relatively dark thrush found in Central and South America. It has slaty-grey upperparts and a pale belly, often with a subtle buff wash.
Where to spot
Humid montane forests, cloud forests, and dense woodlands from Costa Rica to Ecuador and Venezuela.
How to spot
Search the undergrowth and forest floor in its preferred habitat. It can be quite shy, so listening for its complex, fluty song is often the most effective observation method.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most vocal during the breeding season. Best observed during early morning and late afternoon hours.
