Spotted
The Simple Greenbul is an olive-green bulbul, living up to its name with relatively plain plumage compared to some of its more colorful relatives. It is a common but often inconspicuous resident of African forests.
Where to spot
Found in West and Central Africa, inhabiting the understory and mid-story of primary and secondary rainforests, gallery forests, and dense thickets.
How to spot
Identification relies on its overall olive coloration and listening for its calls. It tends to be shy and stay hidden in dense foliage, so patience and quiet observation are important.
When to spot
Observable year-round in its resident range. Most active during the day, particularly in the early morning and late afternoon.
Despite its 'simple' appearance, this greenbul has a surprisingly rich and varied vocal repertoire, often producing complex melodic phrases that can be heard deep within the forest.
