The Santa Marta Wren is an endemic species highly restricted to the isolated Santa Marta Mountains of Colombia. It is a small, active bird of high-altitude cloud forests.
Where to spot
Endemic to the humid montane forests and cloud forests of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in northern Colombia.
How to spot
Requires visiting the high-altitude forests of the Santa Marta Mountains. Look for a small, brown wren foraging in dense vegetation. Listen for its distinctive songs.
When to spot
A year-round resident. Best observed during early mornings or late afternoons, when it is most vocal and active.
This wren is a flagship species for the Santa Marta Mountains, one of the most biodiverse and endemic-rich regions in the world.
