The Salmon-crested Cockatoo is a large and magnificent white cockatoo endemic to the South Moluccas of Indonesia, named for its stunning salmon-pink crest.
Where to spot
Lowland rainforests, forest edges, and cultivated areas on the island of Seram and surrounding smaller islands in the South Moluccas, Indonesia.
How to spot
Look for its large size, predominantly white plumage with a salmon-pink wash on the underside of its wings and tail, and its spectacular salmon-pink crest (often hidden when relaxed). Listen for its extremely loud, harsh screeching calls.
When to spot
Active during the day, often seen in pairs or small groups. Observable year-round. Look for them in the mornings.
