Spotted
The Saffron Toucanet is a stunning species with brilliant saffron-yellow plumage, contrasting with a green back and a red eye-ring. It is a highly sought-after bird found in the humid Atlantic Forests of South America, typically in the mid to upper canopy. Its beauty makes it a highlight for birdwatchers.
Where to spot
Endemic to the humid Atlantic Forest biome of southeastern Brazil, eastern Paraguay, and northeastern Argentina.
How to spot
Look for its unmistakable saffron-yellow plumage as it perches or moves through the canopy. While generally quiet, listen for soft calls. Its bright color can be surprisingly well camouflaged against dappled light.
When to spot
Active year-round. Best observed during the early morning or late afternoon when foraging activity is highest. Increased vocalization during the breeding season.

This species is somewhat of an anomaly within its genus, being the only one from the Atlantic Forest region, while most other aracaris are found in the Amazon.
