The Saffron-billed Siskin is a rare and localized finch found in southwestern Ecuador. Males are strikingly yellow with black wings and a black cap.
Where to spot
Endemic to the dry forests of southwestern Ecuador, primarily in the provinces of Manabí and Guayas.
How to spot
Due to its rarity, any sighting is significant. Look for it in remnants of dry deciduous forest. The male's vibrant yellow plumage with black markings is distinctive.
When to spot
Resident year-round within its very limited range. Breeding activity is often tied to the rainy season (January-April).
