Spotted
A small, attractive apalis with a grey head, olive-green back, and clean white underparts, often with a faint yellowish wash on the flanks.
Where to spot
Montane forests, often at high elevations (over 1,800m), in the Albertine Rift mountains of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and DRC.
How to spot
Look for its clean grey and green plumage. It is an active forager, often found in the mid-canopy. Listen for its high-pitched, rapid, and often melodious song, which is a good clue to its presence.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most vocal during the breeding season, which often coincides with local wet seasons.
The Ruwenzori Apalis is endemic to the high-altitude forests of the Albertine Rift mountains, making it a specialist of this unique biodiversity hotspot.
