Spotted
The Grey-crowned Prinia is a small, active bird distinguished by its grey crown and bright yellowish-green upperparts. It is found in subtropical and tropical shrubland.
Where to spot
Found in the Himalayan foothills (Nepal, Bhutan, northeast India) and northern Southeast Asia. It inhabits dense scrub, forest edges, and tall grass.
How to spot
Look for the grey crown as it moves through dense vegetation. Its calls are often a series of rapid, buzzing notes that can help in locating it.
When to spot
A year-round resident. It is best observed when it is actively foraging or singing from a relatively exposed perch, especially in the mornings.
Its distinctive grey cap provides a good and easily recognizable field mark for identification among other similar-sized prinias.
