Look for its overall rusty-brown plumage, darker head, and robust build. Listen for its varied vocalizations, which include whistles, churring notes, and harsh scolding calls, often given from dense cover.

Observable year-round. Most active during the cooler parts of the day, mornings and late afternoons, when it forages.
