The Rupununi Hermit is a small, relatively plain hermit hummingbird found across the Guianan shield and parts of northern Brazil. It prefers the humid understory of lowland forests, often near water sources.

Northern South America, including Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, and parts of northern Brazil, in humid lowland forests, forest edges, and along rivers.
How to spot
Look for its relatively uniform dull plumage and typical hermit flight pattern, characterized by quick dashes between flowers. It can be found foraging on low flowers in dense undergrowth. Listen for its subtle, high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Active year-round, most visible during early morning and late afternoon foraging bouts. It is generally active throughout the day.
