The Rufous Woodcock is a cryptic forest bird found in mountainous regions of Southeast Asia. Its rich rufous plumage provides excellent camouflage against the forest floor.
Where to spot
Montane forests and dense woodlands in parts of Southeast Asia, including Sumatra, Borneo, and mainland Malaysia.
How to spot
Very difficult to observe due to its secretive nature and dense forest habitat. Look for it foraging quietly on the forest floor, especially in damp areas. Its mottled rufous-brown plumage provides excellent camouflage.
When to spot
Can be observed year-round in its resident montane forest habitat. Most active at dawn, dusk, or night.
