The Rufous-winged Buzzard is a medium-sized raptor of Southeast Asia, named for the distinctive rufous wash on its wings. It is often seen soaring over open country and woodlands.
Where to spot
Found in Southeast Asia, including parts of Indochina, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. It inhabits open woodlands, savannas, cultivated areas, and forest edges.
How to spot
Look for its rufous wings, especially noticeable from below against a pale body. Scan the skies for soaring birds or open areas for perching individuals.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, often seen soaring high in the mid-morning or hunting from perches in the early morning and late afternoon. Observable year-round.
