Spotted
The Rufous-winged Antshrike is a medium-sized antshrike characterized by its noticeable rufous wing patches and overall grey-and-white barred plumage. It is a resident of eastern Brazil.
Where to spot
Dense undergrowth and secondary growth in humid coastal forests, including restinga and shrubby areas, endemic to eastern Brazil.
How to spot
Listen for its accelerating 'chup-chup-chup-chip' call. Scan the dense low vegetation, watching for subtle movements. Patience is required due to its secretive nature.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active in the early morning and late afternoon. Calls are more frequent during the breeding season.
This species is often found in pairs, moving quietly through the undergrowth while foraging, and its calls serve as a primary means of communication between mates.
