Where to spot
Endemic to the Albertine Rift mountains of East Africa, found in montane rainforests in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Rwanda, and Burundi.
How to spot
Search the mid-story and undergrowth of dense montane forests. Look for its rufous vent against darker plumage. It can be elusive, so listen for its high-pitched calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active in the mornings when foraging.
