Found in the understory and mid-story of humid montane and cloud forests along the Andes, from Venezuela to Bolivia.

Look for its distinctive rufous head and colorful body in dense, mossy cloud forest. Its simple, repetitive vocalizations are also a good clue to its presence.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, often more vocal in the mornings. It is a resident species, observable year-round.
This species often perches quite still for extended periods before making quick, agile flights to snatch insects from foliage.
