Baird's Flycatcher is a large and distinctive tyrant flycatcher found in the dry forests of western South America. It is characterized by its streaked plumage and heavy bill.
Where to spot
Endemic to the dry forests and arid scrublands of southwestern Ecuador and northwestern Peru. Often found near rivers or in riparian woodlands.
How to spot
Look for its large size, heavy bill, and prominent streaking on the head, back, and underparts. It has a yellowish belly and a subtle yellow crown patch. Listen for its loud, often burry calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round within its restricted range. Most active during the cooler parts of the day, morning and late afternoon.
This species is primarily insectivorous but is also known to consume a significant amount of fruit, especially during certain times of the year.
