Spotted
The Mouse-colored Tyrannulet is a small, subtly plumaged flycatcher, named for its drab, mouse-gray and olive coloration. It inhabits the understory of humid lowland forests and second growth.
Where to spot
Widespread across parts of the Amazon basin and coastal Brazil in South America, found in humid lowland forests and dense second growth.
How to spot
Look for its small size and dull, mouse-gray appearance. It stays low in dense vegetation, often flicking its tail. Listening for its thin, high-pitched calls is often the best way to locate it.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active in the early morning and late afternoon, but often difficult to spot due to its secretive nature.
Its muted coloration provides excellent camouflage within the dense forest undergrowth, allowing it to blend seamlessly with its surroundings.
