Where to spot
Found in humid montane forests and cloud forests along the Andes, from Venezuela south through Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia.
How to spot
Look for its olive coloration and prominent crest in the mid-story and canopy of montane forests. Listen for its distinctive, often whistled calls.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, especially in the mornings. It is a resident species, observable year-round within its range.
Like other tufted flycatchers, it frequently bobs its head and flicks its tail while perched, adding to its energetic appearance.
