Rüppell's Robin-Chat is a vibrant bird with a grey head, white supercilium, orange throat and breast, and a rufous tail. It is a common and vocal resident of East African woodlands.
Where to spot
Found in East Africa, primarily in Ethiopia, Eritrea, South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. It inhabits woodlands, savannas, cultivation, and gardens.
How to spot
Look for its distinctive white eyebrow and bright orange throat and breast. It often forages on the ground or perches conspicuously. Listen for its loud, melodious, and often mimetic song.
When to spot
A year-round resident. Most active and vocal at dawn and dusk, particularly during the breeding season when males are establishing territories and attracting mates.
This species is a highly accomplished vocalist, often singing a rich and varied song that includes elements of mimicry from other bird species, making it a star performer in its habitat.
