Where to spot
Found in tropical and subtropical moist lowland forests across the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo.
How to spot
Search in the mid-canopy and undergrowth of dense forest. While it can be elusive, its ruby throat is an excellent field mark if you get a clear view.
When to spot
Year-round, as it is a resident species within its range.
The intensity of its ruby throat patch can vary with light conditions, sometimes appearing dark in shade but glowing brilliantly in sunlight.
