Spotted
The Roraiman Antwren is a small, distinctive antwren found in the humid montane forests of the tepuis. It is characterized by its prominent black cap and streaked underparts.
Where to spot
Humid montane forests and stunted forest on the tepuis (table mountains) of southern Venezuela, western Guyana, and northern Brazil.
How to spot
Search in the mid-story of montane forests on tepui summits and slopes. It often joins mixed-species flocks. Listen for its loud, distinctive song, which can carry over the rugged terrain.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during early mornings when singing is most frequent.
This species is closely associated with the unique 'tepui' table mountains of the Guiana Shield, representing an example of specialized evolution in these isolated highland ecosystems.
