Look for it hopping or running quickly over rocks, often performing a characteristic bobbing motion of its entire body. Listen for its clear, ringing song, which often repeats phrases and varies in pitch.

Resident year-round in much of its range; northern populations may move south in winter. Most active during early morning and late afternoon.
