Spotted
The Wing-banded Wren is a small, dark, and highly secretive wren of dense lowland rainforest. It is most readily identified by the distinctive buffy or white barring on its wings.
Where to spot
Inhabits humid tropical lowland rainforests, particularly in dense undergrowth and along small streams, across northern South America from Venezuela to Brazil and the Guianas.
How to spot
Detection is primarily by sound, listening for its complex, high-pitched song. If seen, look for a small, dark wren with clear wing bands foraging on or near the forest floor in deep shade.
When to spot
Observed year-round within its resident range. Most vocal during early mornings.

Despite its small size and elusive nature, its wing bands are a unique and clear field mark, setting it apart from other small wrens of the forest floor.
