The Rock Parrot is a charming, medium-sized parrot endemic to the coastal areas of southern Australia. Its green plumage is adapted for camouflage among the coastal vegetation and rocky outcrops it calls home.

Endemic to coastal islands, rocky shores, and sand dunes along the southern coastline of Australia, from Western Australia to South Australia.
How to spot
Look for its olive-green plumage, yellowish underparts, and faint blue facial markings. Observe them foraging close to the ground. Listen for their soft, trilling calls, which are less harsh than those of many other parrots.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, often seen feeding on the ground or low vegetation. Best observed in the cooler parts of the day. Resident species.
