The Blue-crowned Hanging Parrot is a widespread small parrot species found across Southeast Asia. It is predominantly green with a red rump, and a distinctive blue patch on its crown.
Where to spot
Forests, forest edges, and cultivated areas of Malaysia, Indonesia (Sumatra, Borneo), and southern Thailand.
How to spot
Look for small green birds, often solitary or in pairs, feeding quietly in fruiting trees. Their high-pitched calls are a good clue.
When to spot
Year-round, active throughout the day, particularly during feeding.
