A small, active flowerpecker, the Red-keeled Flowerpecker is known for the prominent red stripe or 'keel' on its chest, contrasting with its black upperparts and white belly. It is a common resident of various Philippine habitats.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Philippines, found in primary and secondary forests, forest edges, plantations, and gardens across many islands.
How to spot
Look for it in fruiting trees, particularly mistletoe. Its bright red chest stripe is an excellent identification marker. Listen for its high-pitched, rapid 'chip-chip' calls.
When to spot
Active throughout the day, particularly during morning and late afternoon. It is a resident species.
