The Palawan Flowerpecker is a small, distinctive species endemic to the Palawan region of the Philippines. Males have dark upperparts with a white throat and yellowish underparts, and a red rump.
Where to spot
Endemic to Palawan and associated islands in the Philippines, inhabiting forests, forest edges, and cultivated areas with scattered trees.
How to spot
Look in the canopy and mid-story of forests, especially near fruiting and flowering trees. Its small size and quick movements require patience. The red rump and white throat are helpful identification marks.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Active throughout the day, often seen high in trees feeding on berries and nectar.
Like other flowerpeckers, it plays a crucial role in the ecosystem by dispersing the seeds of various fruit-bearing plants, particularly mistletoe.
