Where to spot
Humid montane cloud forests and their edges in the Andes of southern Ecuador and northern Peru, typically at elevations between 1,800 and 3,200 meters.
How to spot
Look for them at flowering shrubs and trees, particularly in clearings or along forest edges. They may also frequent hummingbird feeders at local lodges, offering close-up views.
When to spot
Year-round resident, active during the day. Best observed when flowering plants are abundant in its habitat.
