Spotted
A critically endangered or possibly extinct, entirely dark starling endemic to the island of Pohnpei in Micronesia. It was a forest-dwelling species.
Where to spot
Formerly found in the dense, undisturbed forests of Pohnpei, Micronesia. Any current sightings would be considered extremely significant.
How to spot
If still extant, it would be found in the dense interior forests. Identification would be based on its entirely dark plumage and its location on Pohnpei, but its rarity makes it nearly impossible to observe.
When to spot
Historically active year-round. Chances of observation are extremely low given its presumed status.
The Pohnpei Starling has not been reliably sighted since the 1990s, raising serious concerns about its continued existence, primarily due to habitat loss and introduced predators.
