Spotted
The Western Bristlebill is a typical forest-dwelling bulbul with olive-green plumage and a subtle pale eye-ring. It is known for its skulking behavior in dense undergrowth.
Where to spot
Found in West Africa, preferring the lower and middle strata of primary and mature secondary rainforests, often in areas with dense vegetation.
How to spot
Listen for its characteristic liquid, fluting calls from deep within the forest. Patience and keen observation are needed to spot this shy bird amidst the foliage.
When to spot
Observable year-round. Most active in the early morning and late afternoon. Its secretive nature means it's often heard rather than seen.
This species, like its bristlebill relatives, uses its strong legs and feet to clamber through tangled vines and thickets while foraging for insects and small fruits.
