Spotted
The Crimson-breasted Flowerpecker is a tiny, vibrant bird, with males featuring a brilliant crimson breast and rump, contrasting with dark upperparts. Females are duller but still have a red rump.
Where to spot
Found across Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand, inhabiting forests, forest edges, plantations, and gardens.
How to spot
Look for it in the canopy and mid-story of forests and gardens, especially near mistletoe or flowering trees. Its tiny size and quick movements make it a challenge, but the male's brilliant red is unmistakable in good light.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Active throughout the day, often seen feeding on mistletoe berries or nectar.
