Where to spot
Found across arid and semi-arid parts of northern and central Australia, typically in rocky gorges, spinifex country, and near waterholes.
How to spot
Look for them near rocky outcrops or waterholes. Their bright spotted plumage makes them quite striking, especially when seen in good light. They are often active in the cooler parts of the day.
When to spot
Can be observed year-round. Breeding season depends on rainfall but often occurs during the warmer months.
This species is remarkably adapted to arid environments, often found near permanent water sources in otherwise dry regions.
