Spotted
A small warbler with a uniform olive-green back, contrasting with a grey head and white underparts. It has a short tail that it often cocks.
Where to spot
Tropical moist lowland and montane forests, often in the understory and mid-strata, across West and Central Africa.
How to spot
Look for its plain olive-green back. It is an active gleaner of insects in dense foliage. Listen for its distinctive, often sharp, explosive calls or a rapid series of notes.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Active throughout the day. Breeding often coincides with the local rainy season.
The Olive-backed Camaroptera is sometimes known for its 'sewing' habit, using silk to stitch leaves together to form its nest, a trait shared with some Asian tailorbirds.
