Spotted
The Oahu Akialoa was an extinct Hawaiian honeycreeper endemic to Oahu. It was a large, yellowish-green bird with a remarkably long, decurved bill, used for deep floral probing.
Where to spot
Historically endemic to the native forests of Oahu, Hawaii, particularly in the Koʻolau and Waiʻanae mountain ranges.
How to spot
Observation is no longer possible. Historically, it was identified by its yellowish-green plumage and exceptionally long, thin, and strongly decurved bill.
When to spot
Last reliably observed in 1893 and is considered extinct. It is no longer observable.
This species, like other akialoas, faced severe decline due to mosquito-borne diseases and habitat destruction, leading to its early extinction.
