Spotted
The Nauru Reed Warbler is the only endemic land bird species remaining on the isolated island of Nauru. It is adapted to various vegetated habitats on the island.
Where to spot
Endemic to the island of Nauru in Micronesia, found in broadleaf forests, secondary growth, dense scrub, and even coconut plantations.
How to spot
As the most common and only endemic land bird, it's relatively easy to find across Nauru wherever there is sufficient vegetation. Listen for its distinctive and relatively loud song.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Active throughout the day, often easily observed as it is the most prominent land bird on the island.
This warbler shows remarkable adaptability, being able to survive in degraded habitats, including areas of rehabilitated phosphate mines, which is crucial given Nauru's extensive mining history.
