Spotted
The Paddyfield Warbler is a small, migratory warbler that, as its name suggests, often favors paddy fields and other wet, reedy habitats. It has a rather plain brown plumage.
Where to spot
Breeds across central and eastern Asia, commonly in reedbeds, wet grasslands, and paddy fields. Winters in Southeast Asia, India, and parts of the Middle East.
How to spot
Look for it actively foraging among reeds and tall grasses near water. Listen for its distinctive, fast, and often chattering song, which is a key identification clue.
When to spot
Breeding season (summer) in its northern range, and during migration (spring/autumn) along its widespread flyways. Present in wintering grounds from autumn to spring.
This warbler is known for its ability to weave its nest into the sturdy stems of reeds or tall grasses, providing a secure cradle for its chicks.
