Spotted
A localized apalis with a grey head, olive-green back, and whitish underparts, generally lacking strong markings but with subtle variations.
Where to spot
High-altitude montane forests, often in dense undergrowth, in very restricted areas of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and western Rwanda.
How to spot
Difficult to observe due to its secretive nature and dense habitat. Focus on listening for its calls, which are high-pitched and often given in rapid bursts.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active in the mornings. Breeding season information is limited.
Lynes's Apalis is named after Rear Admiral Hubert Lynes, a notable ornithologist who described many African birds. It is often considered a high-altitude specialist.
