Spotted
A medium-sized prinia with a relatively long tail, streaky brown upperparts, and a distinct white chin and throat, contrasting with a greyish breast.
Where to spot
Forest edges, secondary growth, dense scrub, and cultivation in tropical Africa, primarily in the Albertine Rift region and surrounding areas.
How to spot
Look for its white chin and actively foraging behavior in dense low vegetation. Listen for its loud, often explosive, and varied song, which is frequently heard from within cover.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active and vocal during the breeding season, which often coincides with the wet season.
The White-chinned Prinia's prominent white chin is a reliable field mark, making it relatively easy to distinguish from other prinias in its range.
