Koslov's Accentor is a little-known and elusive species native to the remote, high-altitude desert mountains of western China and Mongolia. It is a true specialist of arid, cold environments.
Where to spot
Restricted to the high, arid mountains and plateaus of western China (Qinghai, Gansu, Xinjiang) and parts of Mongolia, particularly in rocky areas with sparse vegetation.
How to spot
Requires dedicated effort to locate, often involving expeditions to remote mountain areas. Look for small, ground-dwelling birds in rocky, desolate landscapes. Its calls are important for detection.
When to spot
Year-round resident in its remote range. Observation is challenging due to its habitat and elusive nature.
This species is named after Russian explorer and ornithologist Pyotr Kuzmich Kozlov, who discovered it in the early 20th century.
