The Moheli Scops Owl is a critically endangered owl endemic to Moheli Island in the Comoros. It is a highly localized forest resident facing severe habitat degradation.

Endemic to Moheli Island, Comoros. Inhabits humid montane and lowland forests, often near ravines.
How to spot
Extremely difficult to observe due to its rarity and restricted island habitat. Primarily identified by its distinctive, soft, purring hoot. Requires dedicated nocturnal searches within remnant forest patches.
When to spot
Strictly nocturnal. Observations are exceptionally rare.
This owl is one of the rarest birds in the Comoros, known from only a few fragmented forest patches on Moheli, making it a critical conservation target.
