Spotted
Meves's Starling, also known as Meves's Glossy Starling, is a medium-sized African starling with a distinctive bronze-purple iridescence over its dark plumage, particularly noticeable on the wings and tail. Its tail is moderately long.
Where to spot
Found in Southern Africa, including Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia, preferring dense riparian woodlands and mopane savannas.
How to spot
Look for its overall dark, glossy appearance with a bronze-purple sheen. Its slightly longer tail and habitat preference for denser woodlands help distinguish it.
When to spot
Most active during the early morning and late afternoon when foraging. Resident, but with local movements according to food availability.
This starling is highly nomadic in parts of its range, following rainfall patterns to find suitable foraging and breeding grounds.
