The Madagascar Sand Martin is a resident swallow endemic to Madagascar, closely related to the Plain Martin. It is characterized by its dull brownish plumage and white underparts.
Where to spot
Open country, savannas, grasslands, and near water bodies for nesting and foraging throughout Madagascar.
How to spot
Look for its uniform brown upperparts and clean white underparts, lacking a distinct breast band. Observe its fast, agile flight over open areas and water. Often seen nesting in colonies in earth banks.
When to spot
Year-round, resident. Most active during daylight hours.
