Spotted
The Long-billed Thrush, also known as Dixon's Thrush, is a medium-sized thrush of the Himalayas, characterized by its olive-brown upperparts, spotted underparts, and a noticeably long bill. It is a secretive bird of dense forests.
Where to spot
Found in the Himalayas across South Asia, including Bhutan, China, India, and Nepal, inhabiting dense moist montane forests, rhododendron thickets, and bamboo groves, typically at high elevations.
How to spot
Look for its olive-brown back, spotted underparts, and conspicuously long bill. It often forages on the ground in dense cover, making it elusive. Listen for its soft, clear calls.
When to spot
Most active during the early morning and late afternoon. Resident, with some altitudinal movements in winter.

Its unusually long bill is adapted for probing deeply into soil, moss, and leaf litter to extract invertebrates, a foraging strategy suited to its moist forest habitat.
