Spotted
As its name suggests, the Little Sunangel is one of the smaller members of its genus, yet it still boasts the characteristic iridescent gorget and vibrant plumage. It is a denizen of high-altitude Andean forests.
Where to spot
High-elevation humid montane forests and paramo edges in southern Ecuador and northern Peru, generally found at elevations of 2,500-3,600 meters.
How to spot
Look for it at flowering shrubs and trees in open forest, especially areas with fuchsia. It can be elusive due to its size and swift movements, so patience and quiet observation are beneficial.
